GATHER PEOPLE

Silver Lining’s Founder & CEO, Carissa Reiniger loves bringing people together and is not going to let coronavirus stop her! Here are her tips on how to make the most of this moment by planning virtual gatherings to create #quarantinequalitytime.

I am a social creature who genuinely loves being around other humans. In my Myers Briggers I am a 97% Extrovert! I want to fully participate in social distancing and self-isolation but I miss my family and friends. So I have decided to use this time to create #quarantinequalitytime with people that I love most. Here are a few ideas for how you can do the same.

1) Family Time – My family and I have scheduled a standing Sunday night family dinner via Zoom. We have immediate family members in 4 different cities around the world so we won’t be able to be physically together for some time. But we are using my company’s Zoom account and having dinner together. During our Family Chats, we all take a turn going around the “circle’ with everyone sharing their sweet and sour from the week so that we can get some quality connection despite us having 12 people ranging in age from 3 to 64 on the call! It is a bit chaotic, but fun!

2) Something Special – I just sent a custom event invitation for a Corona Gala to our family. The rules are that everyone has to dress up in cocktail / black tie (including pants!) and have a nice dinner prepared for themselves in their own home. We will do our Corona Gala via Zoom but having a reason to get dressed up, put on some makeup and do our hair feels really fun. It also gives us something to prepare for and look forward to breaking up the day to day routine of being at home in yoga clothes! And yes, there will absolutely be speeches and a full program planned for the Gala!

3) E-Dinners – We are planning double dates with all of our closest friends via Zoom. We are planning for an hour together to just catch up, check-in and spend quality time together.

4) E-Coffees – I am setting up e-coffees with my closest girlfriends so that we can see each other, look each other in the eyes and have a proper conversation instead of getting trapped in the limitations of text and social media updates that are good tools for sharing information but miss the connection of a proper conversation.

5) Business Events – At Silver Lining we host Silver Circle Connects where we bring groups of 20-30 of our network together to share how they are, what they have to offer and what they most need right now. These are usually in person but instead of canceling them we are scheduling a weekly Silver Circle Connect and using the same framework – just doing it via video.

Better Conversations Guide – I love this resource that The School of Life put together on how to actually have better conversations – in person or using video! Download and get ready for some amazing #quarantinequalitytime conversations!
